Is there a nightlife scene in the Maldives?

Fun Island Maldives focuses on traveling the world and experiencing everything there is to know about The Maldives

The Maldives is a tropical paradise known for its crystal clear waters and white sand beaches. So it’s no surprise that many people assume there is no nightlife scene in the Maldives. But that’s not entirely true! While it’s certainly not as bustling as some of the more popular party destinations, there are still plenty of ways to have fun after dark in the Maldives. From nightclubs to beach barbecues, here’s a look at some of the best nightlife options in the Maldives.

Things you can do when the sun goes Down

1. Dine Out

One of the best things about staying at a resort in the Maldives is that they can arrange unique dining experiences on private beaches, on cruise boats, or even underwater. It doesn’t get much more romantic than eating by candlelight while staring out at an endless horizon.

2. Stargaze

The Maldives are known for their great stargazing opportunities due to very little light pollution. Plan on an evening of seeing how many stars you can count! If you’re interested in learning more about astronomy during your trip, check out the Star Gazer’s Guide to the Maldives (which also includes information about night photography). You can also download it here.

3. Swim with the Fishes (Or At Least The Aquarium)

The Ithaa Undersea Restaurant at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island is one of the Maldives’ most unique locations. Enjoy a five-course meal, with your table situated underwater, which you can admire up close through 3 large glass panels! This is a great activity for snorkelers and non-snorkelers alike as there are also 16 other species of marine life living nearby in an aquarium.

4. Visit A Local Home

Away from resorts, tourists will quickly realize that they’re pretty much stranded on their island without much to do. In order to meet some locals, consider hiring a boat or seaplane to take you from island to island. On each stop, you can visit a local home (which most likely will be on stilts in the water), for tea and snacks.

5. Horseback Riding on the Beach

Many resorts offer guests horseback riding on the beach at sunset, which is one of the best ways to admire the natural beauty of the Maldives. It’s also good exercise!

6. Snorkeling by the Moonlight

Snorkeling during daylight hours isn’t all that exciting due to poor visibility, so consider snorkeling by moonlight instead. You’ll find better marine life when it’s dark outside!

7. Night Diving & PADI IDCs Available Near Atol (Atoll) Felidhe, South Male Atoll

Night diving in the Maldives is a truly unique experience. The marine life reacts to your presence differently at night and you’ll be able to see few other divers out on the reef. In order to go night diving, you must complete a PADI Night Diver Specialty or an IDC. It’s also advisable that you do it during a full moon as visibility isn’t usually great outside of this time period. Many resorts offer night dives from their houseboats and dive centres and can arrange for all necessary equipment and training (most likely: UW Pkg: 1 Tank Dive: $US90 2 Tank Dive: $US150).

8.Snuba at Rangali Island, Maldives

Rangali Island is the perfect place to try snuba , a cross between scuba diving and snorkeling that’s great for beginners or anyone who isn’t interested in getting their PADI certification. The equipment is easy to use, there are no dive pressures, and you’ll get to see fish underwater while breathing through an air hose!

9.Seaplane Soiree

If you can arrange it with your resort or guesthouse owner on the island, why not plan a seaplane soiree? With this activity, guests at nearby resorts are invited onto your seaplane for some local sightseeing before landing back on their original island. You can also ask around about helicopter sunset tours as well.

10. Ride A Dhoni Around Your Resort Island

A traditional dhonis is a Maldivian boat used for island hopping and watersports. Most resorts have their own dhonis that can take guests around the lagoon, but if you’re staying on a small private island or guesthouse, ask your host to borrow one. You’ll get an even more authentic experience of Maldivian customs! Just make sure you know how to swim before going out on the ocean. It’s also possible to take a trip from Male Fort to Hulhule Island using a dhonis – it costs about $US30 return per person and takes roughly 45 minutes each way. ride may be bumpy.

The Maldives is a tropical paradise in the Indian Ocean. It’s also one of the world’s most popular vacation destinations, and it doesn’t have a nightlife scene to speak of. So what do you do after sunset? Leave your resort for dinner or drinks at another location? Nope! You can stay right where you are thanks to all-inclusive resorts that offer food, drink, water sports, entertainment—whatever you need on an island getaway.
