Who doesn’t love a good beach vacation? The sun, the sand, and the waves can be so relaxing. And there are definitely a lot of beaches to choose from. But if you’re looking for something truly unique and special, you should consider the Maldives. What makes these islands so special?

Here are Four Reasons why the Maldives Should be at the top of your List

1.The gorgeous beaches and crystal-clear waters make it a paradise for beach lovers.

2. It’s one of the most affordable luxury travel destinations in the world.

3. With an average temperature of 84 degrees, you can enjoy outdoor activities all year round.

4. The culture is rich and interesting, with mosques, temples.

Reason why Maldives Islands so Special?

The Maldives are an archipelago of 1,190 coral islands grouped into 26 coral atolls (a type of reef that rings a lagoon) in the Indian Ocean. They lie south-southwest of India and are considered part of Southern Asia. Only 200 islands are inhabited while some remain uninhabited.

The nation is composed mostly of low-lying coralline formations, with coasts fringed by white sandy beaches. Coral reefs form about half the total coastline, which means clear waters and lovely beaches! Around 95% of tourists visit for diving and snorkeling opportunities.

The capital and largest city, Malé, which has a population of 103,693 makes up 527 square kilometers or 207 square miles located in North Central Maldives. It is the city with the highest population density in the entire nation. Most residents are ethnic Maldivians, of mixed Arab-Indian descent. Malé is the historical, political and economic capital while tourism is handled by nearby resorts.

The central harbour was mostly destroyed in 2009 while hosting Yemen’s civil war which damaged many ships including oil tankers. Because of this, tourism revenues were down by nearly 50% within a year!

The other Islands are Classified broadly under Three Geographical Divisions

Huvadhu (or ‘Haa Dhaalu’) Atoll , consisting of smaller inhabited islands culminating in Dhigurah island at its southern end, known for its rich fishing grounds and traditionally used to import goods from Minicoy Island in India.

Mulah (or ‘Baa Atoll’) consists of a natural atoll encompassing the smaller inhabited islands of Thoddu and Nayaru, while surrounded by a belt of larger sand cays. The other sand cays include Goifulhafehendhu, Dhiyamigili, Kandholhudhoo and Eboodhoo.

Fasdutere (or ‘Faafu Atoll’) is the southernmost natural atoll with over 200 uninhabited small islands surrounding its lagoon. It has not been fully surveyed yet to determine which smaller ones are truly part of this group.

The city council of Malé received much international praise for its efforts to address the global climate change and its legal attacks on government officials who have been using excessive energy. The city is changing from a very polluted community to one with green technologies. By 2020, most of Malé’s power will come from solar, wind and hydropower sources!
